8 Leadership lessons learned courtesy of the letter E. May hard stumbles and careless bumbles encountered on my path bring you hopefully one little thing to assist you on your journey.
Enter with Energy: As you approach your task, project, or workspace, always do it at pace. Rev up as you approach, calmly contemplate as you depart.
Exemplify Enduro: Enduro is a tough motorcycle built for long distances that can take a pounding and hold up under extreme conditions. Resiliently persevere.
Eat Eye Rolls like Egg Rolls: Heed and empathize with your audience, but remember to treat reactions like appetizers, move on to the next course, and don’t let them ruin your entrée or overall experience.
Excelsior at Excel: “Ever Upward” (thanks Stan Lee and NYS Motto). Study data trends to learn, grow, modify, mature, and move ever upward.
Easy like Sunday Morning: Beautiful things are sometimes break up songs. If you need to move on, from a customer, a toxic teammate, an opportunity, breaking chains that bind can accompany sweet melody.
Earnest not Ernest: Ernest Goes to Camp was an ‘80s comedy. Earnest is having sincere and intense commitment towards something. Being Ernest might provoke a smile or laugh, which is acceptable, but being earnest will allow you to seize the day.
“Every Little Thing”: Bob Marley will follow The Police. To have the result be “Is Gonna Be All Right”, first acknowledge, recognize “She Does Is Magic”. Look for the opportunity to police and proclaim the magic in every little thing people do, and things are indeed gonna be all right.
Elixir Eighty-Eight: Elixir is the magical or medicinal potion that can lead to all good things. Mine was consumed on June 4, 1988. The photo shows me lifting her up one random time. Her smile and laughter show how she has lifted me up for 35 years. May you all have or find your elixir. May you always be learning to lead as you are leading to learn. In a final note to the letter E, I know you are Exceptional. Admit it so you can Emit it. #leadership #itmatters
